Caltech Experimental Gravity Group
We design and operate precision experiments in gravitational physics, quantum measurement, and frontier photonics.
What we work on
Our research spans five pillars that tie together gravitational-wave infrastructure, quantum measurement, foundational physics, advanced photonics, and AI for experimental control. These projects are developed in close connection with LIGO and collaborating laboratories.
- LIGO & Experimental Gravity Infrastructure — detector R&D, LIGO-India systems, coatings, and cryogenic optics.
- Quantum Measurement & Control — squeezed and non-Gaussian states, quantum-limited sensors, and robust feedback.
- Quantum Gravity & Foundational Physics — tabletop null tests, precision bounds, and reproducible protocols.
- Frontier Photonics & Energy Systems — high-power optics, coherent beam arrays, and pulsed laser fusion concepts.
- AI for Experimental Physics — data-driven control, diagnostics, and optimal design of complex experiments.
See the Research Pillars section for more detail on each area.
People & opportunities
The group includes graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, undergraduates, and visitors working across theory, hardware, and data analysis. For current members and collaborators, visit the People page.
If you are interested in joining EGG as a student or postdoc, please start from the About page for contact information and general guidance, and refer to our Publications and Research Pillars when preparing inquiries.
